If you do not shop for a competitive electricity supplier, the default generation portion of your DC Pepco bill went up about 9.56 dollars a month starting July 2026 because of higher regional power auction prices.
Pepco Maryland rate case decision
Approved Base rate case, docket Case No. 9820 before the Maryland Public Service Commission.
As published by the utility or the commission.
Pepco asked the Maryland Public Service Commission for about 119.9 million dollars in new annual electric revenue, which the company said would add about 10.24 dollars a month to a typical residential bill, roughly 5.85 percent in Montgomery County and 5.79 percent in Prince George's County. The commission ruled on August 28, 2026, denying about 165 million dollars in proposed White Flint area capital costs and rejecting projected inflation and labor cost increases, approving only about 50.9 million dollars. The approved increase adds about 3.94 dollars a month to a typical residential bill, about 2.25 percent, effective the same day.
What it means for your bill: Maryland regulators cut Pepco's requested increase by more than half; your bill went up about 3.94 dollars a month starting August 28, 2026, not the 10.24 dollars Pepco had asked for.
