SDG&E filed a new multi year general rate case on June 15, 2026, now docketed as A.26-06-015 (consolidated for review with SoCalGas's related application A.26-06-014), asking regulators to set rates for 2028 through 2031, with a total 2028 revenue requirement of about 3.8 billion dollars, an increase of roughly 280 million dollars over estimated 2027 levels. As initially proposed, a typical residential customer would see a combined 2028 increase of about 14.03 dollars a month for electricity and 8.45 dollars a month for natural gas, an overall 8.6 percent increase. SDG&E and SoCalGas have asked the CPUC for a proposed decision by late 2027 so new rates can start January 2028. San Diego's city council separately voted to back state bills aimed at reining in utility costs as this case opened.
