Duke Energy Florida asked regulators to recover about 1.1 billion dollars in storm restoration costs from the three 2024 hurricanes, mostly through a new storm charge. The Florida Public Service Commission approved recovery of about 1.09 billion dollars over 12 months on February 4, 2025, effective the first billing cycle of March 2025. For a typical 1,000 kWh residential customer the storm charge added about 32.40 dollars a month, though a seasonal fuel credit partly offset the net change on bills through November 2025.
