The Florida Public Service Commission approved Duke Energy Florida's request to remove the storm cost recovery charge tied to the 2024 hurricanes once those costs are paid off. For a typical 1,000 kWh residential customer, removing the charge cuts the bill by about 44 dollars a month starting with the first billing cycle of March 2026, after a temporary addition to the charge in January and February 2026. Commercial and industrial customers see smaller percentage decreases in the 9.6 to 15.8 percent range.
