AES Ohio, which serves the Dayton area, is asking PUCO to approve a new three-year distribution rate plan on top of its 2024 rate case, seeking increases of 34.82 percent (169.8 million dollars) in 2027, 6.28 percent (41.4 million dollars) in 2028, and 3.74 percent (26.2 million dollars) in 2029. PUCO staff has recommended smaller increases of 22.84, 4.61 and 3.45 percent for those same years. The Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel says the 2027 step alone would add about 6.54 dollars a month to a typical 1,000 kWh residential bill. An evidentiary hearing was held August 4, 2026, with a decision still pending.

What it means for your bill: This is a separate, newer AES Ohio rate request from the company's 2024 case; it proposes distribution charge increases stretching from 2027 through 2029, and PUCO staff has recommended cutting the company's ask by roughly a third.
