AES Ohio, which serves the Dayton area, asked PUCO to approve a new three year distribution rate plan seeking increases of 34.82 percent in 2027, 6.28 percent in 2028 and 3.74 percent in 2029. AES Ohio reached an unopposed settlement with PUCO staff and other parties on July 21, 2026 that instead raises a typical residential bill by about 1.17 percent, roughly 2.43 dollars a month, in the first year, with rates set on a predictable schedule through 2029. The settlement still needs a PUCO vote, expected by the end of 2026, before new rates could start January 1, 2027.
What it means for your bill: AES Ohio settled for a much smaller increase than it first asked for, about 2.43 dollars a month in year one instead of the original double digit request, but the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio still has to vote on it.
