To power Meta's new AI data center campus in Richland Parish, Entergy Louisiana asked the Louisiana Public Service Commission to approve three new gas fired power plants plus supporting transmission. The commission approved a settlement on August 29, 2025. Entergy says Meta's own payments will save other Louisiana customers billions of dollars over 20 years, but consumer and environmental groups warned the deal leaves gaps, since the gas plants have an expected 30 year life and if Meta ever scales back or leaves early, ratepayers could still be on the hook for paying off the plants.
