Duke Energy Carolinas filed for a South Carolina rate increase on July 1, 2025 that as filed would have raised a typical residential bill by about 10.38 dollars a month, roughly 7.6 percent. Regulators approved a much smaller settlement, about a 0.6 percent increase that raised the typical 148 dollar monthly bill by 84 cents starting in early 2026, and set Duke's allowed return on equity at 9.99 percent instead of the 10.85 percent Duke wanted. The settlement also pushed Duke to look at ways of protecting customers from costs tied to growing data center demand.
