After its five-year plan was dismissed, CMP filed a smaller, one-year rate proposal on April 17, 2026 seeking 189 million dollars for grid upgrades, more line workers and tree trimming, with 69.3 million dollars of that as a temporary increase starting in July 2026. Because 2025 had a milder storm season than assumed in current rates, CMP said a typical residential customer would actually see bills fall by about 4 dollars a month starting in July 2026, before a longer-term increase of up to 18 dollars a month arrives around May 2027 if the full request is approved.
What it means for your bill: CMP's own filing predicts a short-term decrease around mid-2026 followed by a much bigger increase, up to 18 dollars a month, in 2027; the case was still pending as of mid-2026.
