Rhode Island Energy's first base distribution rate filing in about eight years asked for roughly 65.9 million dollars more in first-year electric revenue, which the company said would raise a typical residential bill using 500 kWh by 7.78 dollars a month (4.83 percent). The PUC's August 21, 2026 decision sided with the Attorney General and cut the request significantly, while separately approving up to 170 million dollars in customer bill credits funded by RGGI proceeds that the commission said would offset the electric increase entirely for winter months; the company had until August 27, 2026 to file compliance tariffs, with final sign-off expected August 31, 2026.
