MidAmerican Energy filed a request in July 2026 to raise natural gas delivery rates in Iowa, which only covers the cost of delivering gas, not the price of the gas itself. As proposed, a typical residential customer's monthly gas bill would rise by about 2.89 dollars, or roughly 5 percent, from 55.60 dollars to 58.49 dollars. The Iowa Utilities Commission has scheduled public comment meetings in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Sioux City in September 2026 before making a final decision.

What it means for your bill: If approved as filed, this would add about $2.89 a month to a typical household's natural gas bill; it does not involve data centers.
