MidAmerican Energy filed a request in July 2026 to raise natural gas delivery rates in Iowa, which only covers the cost of delivering gas, not the price of the gas itself; as proposed, a typical residential customer's monthly gas bill would rise by about 2.89 dollars, or roughly 5 percent, from 55.60 dollars to 58.49 dollars. An interim increase of about 7.7 percent, worth about 43.8 million dollars a year, took effect July 17, 2026 while the case is reviewed, and is subject to refund with interest if the commission approves a lower final rate. The Iowa Utilities Commission held four public comment meetings September 8 through 10, 2026 in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Sioux City, where officials stressed the full increase is not guaranteed; no decision date has been set.
